Design as a linguistic activity

Ekdahl, Bertil LU (2002) 6th World Multiconference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics p.161-166
Abstract
Design starts with a cognitive model and ends with a solution worked out in a way that fits into the human context of meaning which is socially decided. The bridge between the cognitive model and the final system, or thing, is a proper description that has to be possible to socially communicate. The necessary description part leads to the understanding that design, like sciences, is a kind of learning. To realize that we may observe that in design extraction of regularities are of main concern in order to be able to make a description. Both the search for order and its description are characteristic learning. Since learning is going on in a language the same is valid for design
