Abstract
This chapter presents a speculative sonic process for creatively transforming environmental sounds in response to climate scenarios. Sound and listening are explored for attuning to and expressing changing relationships in landscapes due to the effects of drought. Field recordings undertaken in landscapes of Potsdam, Germany are processed in relation to sources, patterns and environmental states to create alternative relationships based on drought scenarios specific to the region. This speculative sonic process manifested across physical and digital dimensions negotiates responses in-between real and fictional situations to produce new spaces and non-human listening perspectives. It is suggested that the employment of fictional elements in the transformation of environmental sounds not only guides listeners through the auditory experience but also operates as a way to bridge climate scenarios with changes in acoustic environments.
