On "Cultural" Knowledge in International Management Textbooks: A Postcolonial Reading
(2009) p.17-42- Abstract
- Training a managerial elite able to conduct business efficiently on the global market is unanimously presented as of utmost importance for success in today's globalized economy. The aim of the chapter is to analyse, whith a broadly postcolonial sensibility, the discourses on culture found in some well-known books that 1) claim to emphasize the cultural factor, and 2) present themselves as "international", supposedly appropriate for reading in all parts of the globe. We more specifically aim to emphasize how future international managers who acquire cross-cultural 'knowledge' through these books are meant to see the world as a result.
