The Exchange-Value of Solar Thermal Energy

Leidi, Johan LU (2007) ISES Solar World Congress 2007 p.2961-2965
Abstract
In Sweden there is a tendency that alternative energy will develop on market premises. In this paper I suggest that the low exergy value of solar thermal energy limits the technique's commodification, i.e. the possibility of having a commercial exchange-value on the market. Anthropologists argue that value of a commodity has to be related to social and cultural aspects of the society where it is situated. By applying anthropological theories of value on solar thermal energy I propose that we also need to include solar thermal energy's physical conditions to understand its potential of becoming a commodity in the society where it is supposed to produce action.
