Management strategies for young adults with meniscal tears : a narrative review on recent trial evidence

Thorlund, Jonas B. ; Skou, Søren T. ; Roos, Ewa M. LU and Lohmander, L. Stefan LU orcid (2025) In Minerva Orthopedics 76(4). p.304-311
Abstract

The purpose of this narrative review is to provide an evidence-based update on management strategies for young adults with meniscal tears, based on two recent randomized controlled trials comparing a surgical vs. non-surgical treatment strategy for this patient group. The results from these trials suggests that exercise therapy is a viable treatment alternative for young adults with a meniscal tear, and may reduce the need for surgery. This information is important for orthopedic surgeons, but also general practitioners, physical therapists and patients when engaging in shared decision making on treatment strategy.
