Restrictions on the Right to Strike in Sweden

Inghammar, Andreas LU and Sinander, Erik (2025) In Bulletin of Comparative Labour Relations p.419-428
Abstract
Few issues in the field of labour and employment law are more controversial than the right to strike. Although the limits of the right are often the subject of heated debate, one thing is clear: the right to strike is not without limits.

Few issues in the field of labour and employment law are more controversial than the right to strike. Although the limits of the right are often the subject of heated debate, one thing is clear: the right to strike is not without limits.
This anthology offers a comprehensive overview of restrictions on the right to strike at international and national levels and provides an insight into the different approaches in the legal systems.
The contributors of the volume are all experts in the field of labour law who are intimately familiar with the subject matter.
This volume examines:
– the law of the International Labour Organization;
– the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter within the framework of the Council of Europe; and
– various national legal systems in Europe. Particular attention is paid to the question of the right to strike in the important area of essential services.
As the right to strike and its limits are generally of great interest at international and national levels and as legal developments in this area have recently accelerated in many places, this highly topical book is recommended not only to labour law scholars but also to political decision-makers, representatives of the social partners and practitioners.
