Coup d´état in KGB style? : A new look at the conflict within the Soviet Communist leadership during the early Brezhnev era
(2024) In Journal of Cold War Studies- Abstract (Swedish)
- The article analyzes power structures and relations in the Soviet Union in the mid-1960s, i.e., in the first years of Leonid Brezhnev's rule. It shows how Brezhnev limited the control mechanisms of power introduced by Nikita Khrushchev in order to consolidate his own position. The analysis contributes to a better understanding of the failure of Khrushchev's "reform communism" and the construction of a system that is considered an example of "stability" in today's Russia and in whose power structures the current Russian President Putin grew up.
