Pervaporation of aqueous ternary systems in biotechnology - Simulation of the pervaporation processes

Abstract
The resistance-in-series model, used to describe the mass transfer through a membrane in pervaporation for binary systems, has been extended to include ternary and multi-component mixtures of different organic and inorganic compounds in aqueous solutions. The new model was used in a simulation including the membrane characteristics and the geometry of the pervaporation. Thus, the influence of process parameters and multicomponent effects on the performance of pervaporation are analysed and benchmarks for further process development are determined.
