Overview of 5G requirements and future wireless networks
(2017) 43rd IEEE European Solid State Circuits Conference, ESSCIRC 2017- Abstract
- In this presentation we review the evolution of radio access networks and introduce 5G, based on the current plans and expectations, as reported in the recent series of the Ericsson Mobility Reports. Standardization is an on-going effort, and much industry research is devoted to finding a good match of requirements - balancing system performance, flexibility and implementation imphcations. We present some standardization activities, including over-the-air testing. Examples are given from both academia and industry, where mm-wave and array antenna systems are explored and their suitability for 5G is investigated.
