Democratic emancipation in Scandinavian offender rehabilitation : – Between policy discourse and actual practice

Abstract
This PhD project balances an interest in social work and its prospects for deliv-ering emancipation or relief from stigma, etc. through motivational agency, on the one hand, with an attentiveness to recent developments in Scandinavian criminal policy, on the other. In my attempts at »bridging« these interests I have come to focus on offender rehabilitation. In this short paper I shall present the main ideas behind, motivations for and perspectives of this PhD project by qualifying further some of these conceptual relations
