This chapter develops an understanding of the potential negative consequences of collaboration for public transport. Collaboration between public and private partners is often seen as an important tool and is used by public authorities to handle many different problems in society, including public transport. In both research and practice, it is common to find exhortations to increase collaboration and suggestions on how to improve it and make it successful. However, in this chapter, we adopt a critical approach to collaboration in public transport and look for the limits of collaboration. This chapter develops an understanding of the potential negative consequences of collaboration for public transport. In doing so, it provides a typology of consequences, developed through literature review and tested through a workshop with Swedish representatives of public transport stakeholders. Our overall conclusion is that because of possible negative consequences, stakeholders in public transport should always carefully and critically consider the advantages and disadvantages of collaboration before they launch or engage in collaborative initiatives.
