Product configuration using object oriented grammars

Hedin, Görel LU orcid ; Ohlsson, Lennart LU and McKenna, John (1998) 8th Symposium on System Configuration Management, SCM 1998 In Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics) 1439. p.107-126
Abstract

This paper presents a technique for product configuration modelling based on object-orientation and attribute grammars. The technique allows efficient interactive configurator tools to be generated for specified product families. Additional benefits include a high degree of checkability, early validation, readability, and reusability. The technique is particularly aimed at mass-customization products and an example concerning the mechanical configuration of plate heat exchangers is used to demonstrate its benefits.
