Profetian är primärt inte för de otrogna : En argumentationsanalys av 1 Kor 14:22b
(2002) In Svensk exegetisk årsbok 67. p.89-104- Abstract
- Traditional analyses of 1 Cor 14:20–25 have not been able to solve the interpretational problems, especially the crux interpretum of v. 22b. Since the problem is one of argumentation it is natural to seek assistance from a method of argumentation analysis. By making use of the method by Stephen Toulmin, it can be shown that the argument may contain more information than is directly apparent. By reconstructing the implicit elements a feasible interpretation emerges. The analysis suggests a qualifier at the crucial point of v. 22b: Prophecy is not for the unbelievers, except when it is used in evangelisation. The phrase “prophecy is not for the unbelievers” should then be understood in the sense that prophecy is not primarily for... (More)

The phrase “prophecy is not for the unbelievers” should then be understood in the sense that prophecy is not primarily for unbelievers. Such a reading stands in balance with both the statements in v. 22 about speaking in tongues and about prophecy, on the one hand, as well as with the examples in vv. 24–25, on the other. The analysis favours a reading where εἰς σημεῖόν ἐστιν in v. 22a is not read for v. 22b. (Less)
