Abstract
In Sweden, industrial archaeology has been of limited distention and has played a modest role. Instead the disciplines of ethnology, history and art history has been dominating studies concerning industrial material heritage. Archaeological studies of metal production have been widely successful, but the focus has been set on early metal making rather than studies of industrialization, industrialism and modern society.
This paper sketches the background of Swedish industrial archaeology. Moreover, is an outline of a suggested revitalization of the sub-field suggested through a case study from the Torne River Valley copper extraction industry in the second half of the seventeenth century.
