Use of personal data and artificial intelligence-ethical and legal issues
(2025) p.301-328- Abstract
As indicated in several earlier chapters in this anthology, traffic safety data are of many different types and studied in a large number of different activities. Many professional studies make use of already existing data, such as accident data records from police, insurance companies and hospitals, as well as statistical data derived from such databases. Other data are collected for specific purposes, such as self-reports related to accidents by means of questionnaires, interviews and mobile equipment. Still other methods discussed in earlier chapters are site-based traffic conflict observations, as well as behaviour observations, made on the spot or by nomadic devices. Common for these studies is that all handling of such data... (More)
As indicated in several earlier chapters in this anthology, traffic safety data are of many different types and studied in a large number of different activities. Common for these studies is that all handling of such data includes processing of personal data related to human persons. Many of these studies will handle particularly sensitive data such as information related to injuries or illegal activities. Surveillance systems may include accidents or near accidents and may include or allow face recognition, as well as identification of vehicle registration numbers. This chapter describes the ethical issues related to the processing of personal data in all these cases.
