Decadal-scale dune evolution at Duck, North Carolina
(2019) International Conference on Coastal Sediments 2019- Abstract
- Analysis of a 13-year long, high-resolution data series on beach profiles, surveyed from 1981 to 1993 by the Army Field Research Facility (FRF) at Duck, North Carolina, in the United States, was analyzed in order to understand the temporal and spatial characteristics of the dune response. Various statistical methods were employed in this analysis. The profile survey data set was analyzed with regard to sand volume change and its relationship to seasonal storms and aeolian sand transport. The results showed how the sediment transport and morphological change of the dune were driven through the combined action by waves, water levels, and wind.
