The paper present some of the results from an ongoing study mainly dealing with Swedish newsreels from the Second World War. In focus are the ways in which political rhetoric was mediated cinematically during the 1940s. In this audiovisual rhetoric, images of Sweden’s cultural heritage played a significant part with considerable impact among the general public. It is, however, worth mentioning that the limited and tentative analysis presented here, is part of a larger and ongoing interdisciplinary project studying the overall mediation of politics in Sweden during the last century.
