- This conclusion underscores the contextual nature of conspiracism across Europe, challenging universalist frameworks and US-centric models. Conspiracy theories are shown to be culturally and politically embedded, shaped by local histories, structural grievances and media ecologies. Counter-disinformation efforts must therefore adopt regionally attuned strategies that resist simplistic error-based interventions. The research highlights the inadequacy of fact-checking alone, advocating for systemic reforms in media infrastructures, funding models and democratic discourse.
