The analysis shows how emotions played an important role for Gadelius in his understanding of both society and the individual. Emotions became the opposite of reason, something to be controlled while also serving as a marker of what was the definition of health, sickness and normality. His emotional view strongly correlates to a dominant bourgeois culture in which he was situated. (Less)
