- Abstract
- War and conflicts worldwide have increased both the interest in, and the need for
defence. Historically, interrogation contexts have been characterized by inhumane
approaches, such as torture, aimed at breaking resistance and obtaining
information, despite previous research, demonstrating the ineffectiveness of such
methods. The aim of this study was to examine how the effective use of different
interrogation techniques and approaches covaries with the effectiveness of
resistance in the interviewee. This was investigated through the observation and

interviewees and 6 interrogators. The results showed significant negative
correlations between the effective use of both the interrogation techniques alpha
and omega, as well as the HEEAAR principles, and the effectiveness of
resistance. However, the resistance type “inertia” was the only type found to
account for this relationship. All HEEAAR principles, as well as the interrogation
techniques “liking,” “contrast,” and “distract the resistance,” showed significant
negative correlations with resistance effectiveness. “Liking” and “contrast” were
also negatively related to the resistance type “inertia.” This study provides an
initial examination of whether the effective use of interrogation techniques and
HEEAAR principles influences the interviewee’s resistance, although findings are
limited to conclusions about covariation. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)

i förhörspersonens motstånd. Motståndstypen “tröghet” var däremot den enda
motståndstyp som visade sig förklara detta samband. Samtliga
(Less)
