Abstract
Rural towns and areas has both challenges and opportunities of regional and local public connections on a human scale. Urbanization is pushing the rural areas into big scale infrastructural solutions, but also creates barriers for accessible public space on a human scale.

The project investigates rurality from a broad perspective to local perspective, and what rurality means in terms of accessibility in Teckomatorp. The project furthermore investigates future planning goals for Skåne region and Svalöv municipality in relation to accessibility for human-scale and to Teckomatorp.

The work highlights Teckomatorp in Sweden, as an example of a small town with its history of a central rural town in Skåne together with its richness of the surrounding landscape. Taking this into consideration the project proposes development of public spaces. The result of the project is the design proposal, which proposes design both in site level and in detailed design. This through a diagrammatic design proposal of Teckomatorp development through public spaces in three different strategic focuses; Connect and diversify green, promote soft mobility and develop the public realm. The strategies are also visualized further in chosen areas through detailed design. The proposal aims to answer the research question in how to develop the public space of rural towns areas how to be more accessible in human-scale, while keeping the local identity of the site.

Despite the project’s detailed design - the work shall be a contribution to a future working process to create more accessible and sustainable rural areas, by focusing on public spaces. By making the rural areas more accessible to public space, these areas can promote a more social sustainable lifestyle - where rural traditions and accessibility meet in the middle. (Less)
