Humanoida robotar inom fartygsbyggnation
(2026) MMKM05 20261Innovation
- Abstract (Swedish)
- With a shrinking industrial workforce and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, many companies are starting to look toward intelligent humanoid robots to aid them in their operations. This thesis explores the current landscape of industrial humanoid robots and outlines how Saab Naval can start the process of integrating them into their shipyard production. Recent advancements and current limitations of humanoid robots are presented, and eleven different models of humanoid robots manufactured in Europe and North America are discussed. Academic literature and reports from manufacturers of humanoid robots are combined with semi-structured interviews and discussions with Saab employees. From the findings, recommendations are given for Saab Naval regarding which humanoid robots to look further into, the humanoids’ initial work tasks, the integration into the company’s operations, and required further research.
A prevalent challenge is the information availability and reliability regarding the capabilities and development status of the different humanoid robots. This makes it difficult to make accurate assessments of how they can be used and how they compare to each other. The area is also rapidly changing, with frequent announcements of new advancements and upgrades further complicating the task. Another challenge for Saab is finding a way to train and continuously improve the humanoids’ AI using their collected data without placing sensitive information at risk.
The conclusion of the thesis is that the currently most well-suited humanoid robots for Saab are, in order, Digit by Agility Robotics, AEON by Hexagon, 4NE1 by NEURA Robotics, and Atlas by Boston Dynamics. Saab’s next step on the path to start using humanoid robots is to contact these manufacturers for more information about their humanoids and the potential to conduct trials at Saab’s facilities.
