Abstract
The present study explores the relevance of the geographical distribution of patenting activity in the context of gender equality in innovation. The present thesis constitutes an extensive investigation, incorporating novel data of a considerably broader scope than before. This study endeavours to ascertain the significance of country-specific variables in elucidating female participation in patenting activity during the nineteenth century. In order to obtain the necessary results, a probit model is employed. The main variable of analysis in this model is a dummy for female participation in patents, while the primary explanatory variable is a dummy for the country in which the patent was granted. Robustness checks are conducted by... (More)

Robustness checks are conducted by augmenting the data set with additional information from Italy during a comparable historical period. In conclusion, it is evident that country-specific variables play a pivotal role in the analysis of women's participation in the domain of patenting. This observation underscores the imperative for effective governance and inclusive institutions to foster gender equality. (Less)
Popular Abstract (Uncoded languages)
(Less)
