Abstract
In the information society, one of the most important competitive weapon for the companies, is how their co-workers process and mediate information, in other words how they communicate. The demands on the internal communication are higher today in modern organizations. This has consequences for people’s professional roles, which nowadays focus on soft qualities for example the skill to communicate. Therefore it is of interest to investigate co-workers commitment and participation in an organizations communicative environment. In the information society, one of the most important competitive weapon for the companies, is how their co-workers process and mediate information, in other words how they communicate. The demands on the internal communication are higher today in modern organizations. This has consequences for people’s professional roles, which nowadays focus on soft qualities for example the skill to communicate. Therefore it is of interest to investigate co-workers commitment and participation in an organizations communicative environment. The research is a qualitative case study, where a flight company and their co-workers interest to engage in the internal communication are studied. Focus is on aspects which promote or prevent the co-workers to actively participate. The result of the study shows that organizational culture is an important aspect which influences the co-workers commitment. The influence is two ways and the co-workers professional identity affects the culture which causes the communicative behaviors in the company. In addition, the organizational structure is the source of possibilities but also limitations regarding the internal communication. The function is superior when designing the communication structure in a company. (Less)

I dagens informationssamhälle är ett av företagens viktigaste konkurrensmedel hur medarbetarna tar till sig, bearbetar och förmedlar information, med andra ord hur de kommunicerar. Kraven har blivit högre på internkommunikationen i moderna organisationer, vilket har fått konsekvenser för människors yrkesroll, vars mjuka värden prioriteras såsom förmågan att kommunicera. Därför är det av intresse att studera medarbetarnas engagemang och delaktighet i företagets kommunikativa miljö. Kraven har blivit högre på internkommunikationen i moderna organisationer, vilket har fått konsekvenser för människors yrkesroll, vars mjuka värden prioriteras såsom förmågan att kommunicera. Därför är det av intresse att studera medarbetarnas engagemang och delaktighet i företagets kommunikativa miljö. Undersökningen är en kvalitativ enfallsstudie, där ett flygbolag och dess medarbetares intresse att medverka i internkommunikationen studerats. Syftet var att undersöka aspekter som främjar eller hindrar ett deltagande. Resultaten från studien visar att organisationskulturen är en viktig faktor som influerar medarbetarnas engagemang. Dock är påverkan av organisationskulturen dubbelriktad. Medarbetarnas yrkesidentitet inverkar i hög grad på kulturen och ger upphov till de kommunikativa beteenden som finns inom företaget. Studien visar även att ett företagets organisationsstruktur både ger upphov till möjligheter men också begränsningar för internkommunikationen. Funktionen bestämmer strukturen, vilket företaget måste ta hänsyn till vid utformningen av en kommunikationsstruktur. (Less)
