Sexuality is something that affects everyone in some way during most of their lives, no matter age, sex or language. Heterosexuality is currently the sexual orientation that is norm in Sweden. This is called heteronormativity which means that we in our society take for granted that everyone is heterosexual until the individual tells us differently. Sexuality is something that affects everyone in some way during most of their lives, no matter age, sex or language. Heterosexuality is currently the sexual orientation that is norm in Sweden. This is called heteronormativity which means that we in our society take for granted that everyone is heterosexual until the individual tells us differently. Not being heterosexual is to deviate from the norm.
This is a qualitative study designed to investigate the Swedish junior high school's role in the creation of sexual norms. We have through interviews with teachers in Swedish schools investigated whether the teachers are aware of the heterosexual norm that prevail in society, and if so, how they in their teaching are relating to that. For example, we have concluded that sex education is important to young people when it is part of forming identity and the creating of healthy standards. (Less)
