Spelmusikens betydelse? - En kvalitativ intervjuundersökning om musiken i World of Warcrafts påverkan på ungdomars musiksmak

- Min undersökning går ut på att undersöka vilken påverkan symfonisk spelmusik kan ha på ungdomars musiksmak. Under en sonderande undersökning upptäckte jag att onlinespelet World of Warcraft var vanligt förekommande bland unga spelare och eftersom detta spel har symfonisk musik baserar jag min undersökning på World of Warcraft. Sex kvalitativa forskningsintervjuer utförs med ungdomar som är aktiva spelare, går sitt första år på gymnasiet och som inte har sysslat
med aktivt musicerande mer än tre års tid. Alla intervjupersoner spelar aktivt World of Warcraft vars soundtrack består av symfonisk musik.
Studiens resultat visar att ungdomarnas musiksmak inte i någon större utsträckning har påverkats av spelmusiken. Anledningarna till detta är... Dels använder ungdomarna sitt spelande som en social kontakt med andra spelare och använder sig då av it-telefoni (t.ex. Skype) och dels väljer de att med musikprogram på datorn (t.ex. Spotify) lyssna på musik under sin vardag. Ett par av ungdomarna lyssnar på viss spelmusik även när de inte spelar. Detta förekommer dock inte ofta och när det väl

Six qualitative research interviews are made with adolescents that are active gamers, are 16 years old and who have not been playing any form of musical instrument for more than three years. The purpose of this study is to investigate which effect symphonic music in games has on the musical taste of adolescents. During the preparatory research I noticed that the online-game World of Warcraft was common amongst many young players and since this game has a symphonic soundtrack I have decided to base my research on World of Warcraft. Six qualitative research interviews are made with adolescents that are active gamers, are 16 years old and who have not been playing any form of musical instrument for more than three years. All the interviewed individuals are active in the game World of Warcraft which has a soundtrack consisting of symphonic music. The result of the study shows that the musical taste of adolescents is in fact not affected by the music in games by any greater means. There are two reason as to why. They either use their games as a source of social contact with other gamers and talks to them with the use of Skype or they choose to
listen to the music they prefer during their weekdays with the help of programs such as Spotify. A couple of the adolescents do listen to game music even when they are not gaming. This however does not occur very often and when it happens it's done to relive old memories of their gaming, meaning with the purpose of nostalgia. (Less)
