The time for dream is now. A diachronic study on the noun ‘dream’
(2011) ENGK01 20111English Studies
- Abstract
- People have had dreams since time immemorial. The Bible‘s Genesis
tells us about Joseph‘s dreams, Greek mythology describes the God
Asclepius and his dream-healing rituals, at the turn of the 20th century,
Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams, J.T. Adams
coined the term ‗American Dream‘ in the 1930s and in the 1960‘s,
Martin Luther King gave his famous ‗I have a dream‘ speech. It is
reasonable to believe that, as times are changing, so do dreams and
desires. Every period carries its own dream, hence, the title of this
study: The time for dream is now.
