Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate musicians’ attitude towards alcohol and how alcohol affects musicianship. Five musicians have been interviewed and the interviews have been transcribed and analysed through Thematic analysis. The results show that there are preconceptions about musicians’ alcohol consumption and that the influence of alcohol generally is more accepted in the music profession than in other professions. Access to alcohol, anxiety, social pressure and personality may be reasons to why musicians use alcohol and the effects of alcohol affects judgement, communication, concentration, memory, anxiety and creativity. In the discussion the results of the study are compared with literature and previous research.
