Chinese-style WLB: An Investigation of Chinese Female Workers’ Perceptions on Work-life Balance

Abstract
Work-life balance (WLB), especially for female workers is a popular topic being widely discussed in different fields. Yet, there are insufficient studies on how Chinese female workers perceive their own WLB and organizational WLB support. In our research, we hold that WLB is personally interpreted and subjectively perceived. Therefore we conducted interviews with Chinese female workers to explore their perceptions of WLB and organizational WLB support. Finally, we find that, for Chinese female workers (1) high working demands are less likely to cause work-life unbalance; (2) WLB is more of work-family balance; (3) WLB lies in the integration between work and life; (4) family support from parents or partners is more recognized than...
