The academic research acknowledges the importance of rule management and handling strategies of rules but at the same time suggests that the management and maintenance of it still do not get the full attention needed. This study thus set out to explore how the business rules approach is managed in practice. Further, it explores the possibility to address business rule as a strategic resource and discuss the creation of a model where the business rules approach and the resource-based view are compiled. The research consequently evaluates the model through a qualitative study by interviewing four expert informants and examines how organizations handle their operations to manage business rules so as to attain competitive advantage using the business rules approach. An output model is presented with important factors and operations, which could guide an organization in the process. Moreover,
the model explains the gradual progress of developing business rules as a resource with respect to resource based view to carry out its goals with business rules approach. (Less)
