- Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att utveckla förståelsen av begreppet mänskliga rättigheter genom två olika perspektiv; ett moraliskt och ett politiskt. Materialet i uppsatsen utgörs av texter skrivna av tre olika filosofer: Martha C. Nussbaum, Charles Beitz och Philip Pettit. De tre erbjuder tre olika teorier för att förstå mänskliga rättigheter. En metod baserad på Quentin Skinners teori för att analysera politisk filosofi har skapats specifikt för att uppfylla uppsatsens syfte. Det är en modell för analys som består av fyra olika analysnivåer. Första analysnivån berör frågan om människosyn och andra analysnivån grundläggande värden. Utifrån resultatet av analysen jämförs och utvärderas de båda perspektiven. Med antagandet om att en grundläggande idé är att mänskliga rättigheter ska skydda individen mot godtycklig och orättfärdig makt dras slutsatsen att vi har goda skäl att argumentera för en specifik politisk förståelse av begreppet. - The purpose of this essay is to develop the idea of human rights, using a moral and a political perspective. The material consists of texts written by three philosophers: Martha C. Nussbaum, Charles Beitz, and Philip Pettit. Each of them has their own idea of human rights. - The purpose of this essay is to develop the idea of human rights, using a moral and a political perspective. The material consists of texts written by three philosophers: Martha C. Nussbaum, Charles Beitz, and Philip Pettit. Each of them has their own idea of human rights. To fulfill the purpose of the essay a method based on Quentin Skinners theory of analyzing political philosophy is created. This model consists of four levels of analysis. The first level concern the view of man and the second one concern fundamental values. These constitute the moral perspective of human rights. The third level of analysis concern agency and the fourth one concern institutionalization. These constitute the political perspective of human rights. Two different perspectives of human rights are developed based on these levels of analysis, which is central for the theoretical discussion. These perspectives are compared and evaluated on the basis of the result of the analysis. With the assumption that human rights should protect the individual from arbitrary and unjust power, the conclusion must be that we have good reasons to argue in favour of a particular political perspective of human rights.
