Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the research on Mobility Management’s possibilities in private companies and its long-term effects, by examining the employees’ current travel habits and prerequisites in a private company in rural areas in Sweden, and which MM measures that are effective and applicable, and also which effects MM measures can produce.

Methods: Combination of both quantitative method in form of an on-line survey and qualitative method with four semi-structured interviews.

Findings: This study indicates that commuting by car is the most popular transport mode among the employees while active commuting (cycling/walking) is very little. However, there is potential for the company to work with Mobility Management measures for reducing car driving and increasing active commuting, with a focus on a local target group. Reducing physical parking places at work and telecommuting are considered as possible measures. Parking Charges and Cash Out are not applicable in the company at present, though they are usually regarded as two of the most effective MM measures for promoting sustainable commuting. Information and marketing are also crucial. A number of positive effects from MM can be expected to benefit individuals, companies and the society. The company e.g. gets healthier employees, lower operation costs, reduced CO2 emissions and effective land use.

Conclusions: Mobility Management is applicable in the private companies with sizes similar to the studied company. There are both opportunities and challenges with MM implementation. Co-operation with e.g. local municipality and traffic companies is one of the opportunities, while lacking competence in MM and hesitation of motorists to change are both challenges for implementing MM, which also requires continued investment. Implementing a package of different MM measures is the key to get expected effects. Doing that, companies can contribute to a good environment in their society and a regional development in the long run. (Less)
