Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
This study examines four folk high school students’ experiences with deepening their knowledge of rhythm and scales on their main instruments by working with composition. The students have been given composition assignments with few guidelines, enabling them to focus on their own exploration and development of musical ideas. The study is based on action research and qualitative interviews. The results of the study show that students appreciated the composition-oriented work, and that they see it as an interesting and worthwhile complement to other teaching methods. Furthermore, they felt that working in a composition-oriented manner made them use the musical material in a personal way. The students found that, in comparison with their... (More)

The students found that, in comparison with their usual practising methods, they became less dexterous with this method. On the other hand, they gained a deeper knowledge of the areas on which they chose to focus. (Less)
