The question stated is: To what extent does Sweden take into account the demands of war in the academic basic education for tactical army officers? The study is conducted as a qualitative text analysis using indicators developed from the studies' theory. The analysed materiel consists of official documents from the Swedish Armed Forces and National Defense College. The result show that the basic education indeed considers and implements the demands of war, in a theoretical manner. The main conclusion of the study is the perceived unbalance between theoretical knowledge and practical ability accorded to the officer during basic education. This means that newly graduated officers need considerable training in leading and manoeuvring tactical units after completing the basic education. (Less)
