Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the value of HEXACO personality traits in predicting job crafting, as well as the relationship between the proactive dimensions of HEXACO (extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness) and job crafting, work engagement and employment types. Based on previous literature findings, this study proposed that job crafting will mediate the relationship between personality and work engagement, and this will be moderated by employment type. Cross sectional study was conducted using self-report measures in an online survey (N = 93). Results showed that HEXACO model significantly predicted the job crafting in terms of increasing structural and social resources and increasing challenging demands. Proactive personality... (More)
This study aimed to investigate the value of HEXACO personality traits in predicting job crafting, as well as the relationship between the proactive dimensions of HEXACO (extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness) and job crafting, work engagement and employment types. Proactive personality traits extraversion and conscientiousness predicted work engagement. The three tested job crafting types each partially mediated the relationship between extraversion and work engagement. Increasing structural resources fully mediated the relationship between conscientiousness and work engagement. These findings suggest that part of the work engagement of individuals high on proactive HEXACO personality traits (extraversion and conscientiousness) can be explained through their involvement in job crafting activities. Relation to Job Demands and Resources theory is discussed, as well as future study ideas, limitations and practical implications for managers and human resources professionals. (Less)
