Abstract
Pavements in Sweden today are often designed to have a life span of at least 20 years. This means that pavements are designed to endure all seasons for 20 years: 20 winters, 20 spring thaws. 20 summers and so on. For those occasions where a life span less than 20 years is requested, there is no standardized method to use today. Designing is instead usually done either by scaling down the results from a 20-year-life span-design or by re-using design solutions from other projects. However, the use of these kinds of methods does not ensure that best possible designing is made.
The aim of this thesis is therefore to investigate whether or not the designing of temporary gravel roads can be done in a more sophisticated way. A way better... (More)

The aim of this thesis is therefore to investigate whether or not the designing of temporary gravel roads can be done in a more sophisticated way. A way better adjusted after the conditions the road will actually experience during its life time.
The results show that it is possible to develop a model for temporary gravel roads that predicts the rutting. A model that furthermore can be used for designing the road.
The results indicate that often too strong pavements are being used for temporary roads today. The thesis model does however show some inconsistencies with theory. Because of this, further work with the model and the study of temporary road design is needed. (Less)
