Abstract (Swedish)
Bakgrunden till denna studie kommer sprunget av ett generellt intresse för Japan som land
samt en vänskapsrelation med en musiklärare från Japan.
Syftet är att skapa en bättre förståelse för de tankar och resonemang japanska musiklärare har
om sitt eget ämne. Litteraturdelen går igenom några få kulturella aspekter, skolans olika
nivåer, en genomgång av kursplanen samt några andra faktorer av relevans för studien.
Studiens data utgörs av fyra semi-strukturerade intervjuer och observationer av
musiklektioner på tre skolor i Japan. Analysen gjorden med öppen kodning. Undersökningens
resultat tyder på att lärarna värderar reflektionsförmåga och sång högt. Genom sin

Playing with instruments in regular classes exist but are scarce. On the other hand the club
activity of the schools offers rich opportunities for playing instruments for the interested
