- Abstract
- This study has been conducted to investigate whether trucks of the High Capacity Transport vehicle type, HCT-vehicle, ie. longer and heavier vehicles can turn in existing intersections. Today, there are three types of HCT-vehicles, which are double centre-axle trailer combination (Duo-kärra), ETT-ekipage and Duo-trailer. These new vehicle types have been developed to meet the transport increase. The problem is that these vehicles are longer than those vehicles which by law have permission to drive on the roads, ie. they are longer than 25,25 m. There is therefore an uncertainty as to whether they can turn in existing intersections. To be able to investigate their level of serviceability in intersections, the swepth path analysis software,... (More)

To be able to investigate their level of serviceability in intersections, the swepth path analysis software, Vehicle Tracking, has been used. These new vehicles were built up in the program and turned at speeds of 5 km/h and 10 km/h. The intersections that have been investigated are intersection type A, B and C with the radius 12 m. The analysis showed that the vehicles can turn to the right and left in intersection type A when they use the opposite lane. The intersection types B and C are considered not to have a sufficiently large surface area for the vehicles to have good level of serviceability. For these larger vehicles to be able to turn in intersection type B and C, a larger radius than 12 m may be needed. (Less)
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
