Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Since I started attending church on my own initiative, I have often been fascinated by the music and the amount of space it gets in the service. During my music studies at the upper secondary school, folk high school and music college, I have also found myself distinguishing that many musicians come from a background in the church. Even the early composers, such as Bach, were church musicians. This study aims to investigate how musicians within the Swedish free church denominations experience their feelings about performance when they play music with a higher purpose than to play correctly and neatly. This study aims to investigate how musicians within the Swedish free church denominations experience their feelings about performance when they play music with a higher purpose than to play correctly and neatly. This is done with the intention of finding a vocabulary and practical measures for how we as teachers can facilitate the management of emotions related to performing for our students. The study is based on literature, a quantitative questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The selection of informants was made with the intention of taking part of several perspectives from different ages and work areas. I have therefore chosen to interview a teacher, a student and a theologian who are all musicians and sent a questionnaire to active worship musicians. The study shows how the musical context effects the practitioner and that the musical storytelling becomes more obvious in specific contexts. The results also show suggestions on preventive work methods in the school to reduce performance anxiety among students. (Less)
