Under timmarna omkring topptimmen... (More)

- Public transport is a great way for people to travel more socially and environmentally friendly. It is therefore important to have a well-functioning system for public transport. A large part of that is making sure the commuters whom travel by train has a good experience. If the trains are overstuffed with people, it loses its competitiveness with other means of transport such as cars. This report has investigated how the proportions of commuters has changed during peak hour in Skåne’s regional train traffic. By investigate the proportions of boarding commuters for a few selected stations in Skåne between the years 2001 – 2015, this report has concluded that the proportions overall have decreased during the peak hour, even though a greater number of commuters are traveling by train. However, during the hours surrounding the peak hour, the proportions of commuters seems to be the same. The report also concludes that the number of departures has increased, while the proportions of departures during the peak hour has decreased and that the departures more are spread out over the day. The spread of departures together with people having more flexible workhours seems to be possible reasons this shift in peoples travel time habits. However, a more in dept analysis of how the congestion in travellers on the trains, would be of use to further understand what more can be done in increasing the percentage of travellers that choose to use public transport in their everyday commuting.
