- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- Abstract
- This empirical study aspired to explore how registered psychologists and authorized interpreters perceived their collaboration in the children and adolescent habilitation center, and how this collaboration could be developed. After interviewing four registered psychologists and four authorized interpreters using semi-structured interviews, a thematic analysis was performed using an interpretative phenomenological approach. The results were summarized in three overarching themes: Frameworks to relate to, The relationally challenging interpretative practice and Ways forward. The collaboration was perceived as complex, which was largely ascribed to the unique characteristics of the psychological meeting. This complexity was described to... (More)
- This empirical study aspired to explore how registered psychologists and authorized interpreters perceived their collaboration in the children and adolescent habilitation center, and how this collaboration could be developed. This complexity was described to occasionally impair the quality of the health care. Although all informants expressed a desire to develop this collaboration, several obstacles seemed to interfere with the opportunity to do so. The discussion raised unanswered questions that seem to interfere with the desire for a collegial collaboration: What are our roles? A cultural barrier? Who is the third party? and Where does responsibility for developing the collaboration lie? Future research should explore patients’ experiences of communicating through interpreters in consultations with psychologists, the collaboration within other health care branches, the significance of authorization in being able to provide good care, and the effects of the suggested interventions.
