Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This study is based on my own experiences of how teachers and students in high school affected me in my musicianship and in shaping my musical identity. During my studies in teacher education and before my future role as teacher I want to reach a deeper understanding of how students today experience the creation of their musical identity. This study aims to investigate how song students in high school perceive their own musicianship and how these experiences are connected to their identity. This study also investigates factors that have affected them in their creation of their musical identity, and what opportunities they perceive regarding musical development in school. This study is based on literature review, previous studies in this... (More)

This study also investigates factors that have affected them in their creation of their musical identity, and what opportunities they perceive regarding musical development in school. This study is based on literature review, previous studies in this area and qualitative interviews with three song students in different music education programs in their last year of high school. The informants were chosen to achieve a variety of voices from different music education programs in high school. The results of the study show that the way the informants talk about their musicianship is very individual and closely connected to their identity. The students individual aim, perceived expectations, the educational content as well as comparisons with other students are factors that affect their musical identity. The experience of opportunities and limitations for development of their musicianship in school, differ greatly between the informants who all study in different programs. (Less)
