Despite its widely shared call for justice and the fulfillment of the human right of education for all, the understanding of its process is diverse and interactions amongst system remains limited. Based on the Ecological Systems Theory and its expansion to the ecology of inclusive education, this study aims to explore factors located in systems surrounding the learner and their interaction influencing the understandings of the process of inclusive education in Jordan.
The research question ‘How is the process of inclusive education understood by selected participants in Jordan?’ is answered through 14 semi-structured interviews and two focus group discussions including participants reaching from the classroom to the policy level. The research identified a whole-system approach as imperative for the understanding of the process of inclusive education in Jordan. Acceptance and awareness can be key to success or a barrier when not given sufficient attention across all systems throughout the process of inclusive education. The valuing of diversity is indispensable for the creation of a supportive social environment moving the responsibility of inclusive education away from the mainstream classroom. (Less)
