The method of strategic choice aims to encourage dialogue between different actors and interests in order to make effective and rational decisions based on consensus. There has not been a lot of research about its consequences yet, especially regarding how it affects democratic values. Hence, by creating an analytic framework of an ideal democratic decision process this essay aims to critically review how the method of strategic choice can change in order to fully meet the ideal. The following study shows that the focus on being effective and rational makes the method lack in democratic values. This does not mean that the method is undemocratic but, the method does not take normative advantages and inequality in dialogues into account. (Less)
