- Studien undersöker vad fyra informanter, som är sångare och sångpedagoger, menar är typiska sångtekniska utmaningar för en bassångare inom den västerländska konstmusiktraditionen, vilka bakomliggande faktorer till dessa sångtekniska utmaningar de menar är vanliga och hur de i arbetet med sina elever tar sig an dessa utmaningar, ofta utifrån personliga erfarenheter på området. Det teoretiska underlaget till studien består av litteratur inom röstfysiologi och akustik, sångteknik och prestationspsykologi. Datainsamlingen har skett genom intervjuer med de fyra informanterna. - Studien undersöker vad fyra informanter, som är sångare och sångpedagoger, menar är typiska sångtekniska utmaningar för en bassångare inom den västerländska konstmusiktraditionen, vilka bakomliggande faktorer till dessa sångtekniska utmaningar de menar är vanliga och hur de i arbetet med sina elever tar sig an dessa utmaningar, ofta utifrån personliga erfarenheter på området. Det teoretiska underlaget till studien består av litteratur inom röstfysiologi och akustik, sångteknik och prestationspsykologi. Datainsamlingen har skett genom intervjuer med de fyra informanterna. De sångtekniska utmaningar som informanterna menar är typiska för bassångare rör klangfärg, övertonsrikedom, klanglig frihet, vokal flexibilitet, registerövergångar, överkompression, vokalt stödarbete och legatosång. De bakomliggande faktorer till sångtekniska utmaningar som informanterna framhäver är mentala faktorer kopplade till sångarens psykologi, musiksociala faktorer kopplade till trender och ideal inom musikvärlden, tidsfaktorer kopplade till en bassångares vokala utveckling över tid samt vokal självbild kopplat till sångarens uppfattning av sin egen röst. Avslutningsvis diskuteras informanternas förslag på hur bassångare kan ta sig an dessa utmaningar och i detta sammanhang presenteras förslag som att sjunga på ett jämnt luftflöde, att hitta optimal nivå av aktivitet i röstapparaten, att skaffa kunskap om sina registerövergångar och att hitta en korrekt struphuvudsposition. Dessutom diskuteras olika tankemodeller som kan hjälpa sångaren i arbetet med att ta sig an dessa komplexa utmaningar. Utifrån studiens slutsatser föreslås vidare forskning som syftar till att förtydliga definitionerna av ofta använda begrepp som exempelvis ”stöd” och ”register”. (Less)

- The study investigates what four informants, who are singers and voice teachers, claim to be typical vocal technique-related challenges for a bass singer within the western art music tradition, which underlying causes to these technical challenges they claim are relevant and how they in working with students take on these challenges, often informed by their personal experiences within the subject. - The study investigates what four informants, who are singers and voice teachers, claim to be typical vocal technique-related challenges for a bass singer within the western art music tradition, which underlying causes to these technical challenges they claim are relevant and how they in working with students take on these challenges, often informed by their personal experiences within the subject. The theoretical framework for the study consists of literature from the fields of voice physiology and acoustics, voice technique and performance psychology. The data has been collected through interviews with the four informants. The vocal technique-related challenges the informants claim are typical for bass singers concern tone colour, richness in overtones, tonal freedom, vocal flexibility, transitions between vocal registers, hypercompression, vocal support and legato singing. The underlying causes to vocal technique-related challenges that the informants highlight are mental aspects related to the singer’s psychology, music social aspects related to trends and ideals existing within the world of music, temporal aspects related to a bass singer’s vocal progression over time and vocal self-image related to the singer’s perception of their own voice. Finally, the informants’ suggestions to how bass singers may take on these challenges are discussed and within that context are presented suggestions such as singing with an even flow of air, finding an optimal level of activity in the vocal apparatus, getting familiar with the voice register transitions and finding a correct placement of the larynx. Furthermore, some different thought models which can help the singer perform these complicated tasks are discussed. The study’s conclusions imply further research to clarify the definitions of commonly used terms, for example “vocal support” and “vocal register”. (Less)
