- Abstract
- This master’s thesis is about the role of the civil society in contemporary Sweden, during a crisis of solidarity and care. The crisis of care refers to a crisis of social reproduction that is inherent to the capitalist system. The material that this thesis is being based on is qualitative, semi-structured interviews with ten women who are active members of the non-profit organisation Eos Cares based in Lund. The main conclusions that can be drawn from the material are that the professionalisation of the civil society has changed the conditions of engagement in civil society organisations, that the civil society performs a somewhat normative social reproduction of newly arrived refugees, that the civil society has become an increasingly important arena for promoting non-capitalist values and lastly, that the civil society both resists and enables the flaws of the welfare state.
