Abstract
In this thesis, I examine how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected six libraries in
the Swedish public library system through interviews with employees at said
libraries during the period between March 2020 to March 2021.

In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to digital media, the Internet
and assistance from library staff have been limited. Most activities aiming to
promote digital literacy and motivation have been withdrawn. These changes have,
at least temporarily, negatively affected the quality of the assistance and access to digital media and the Internet for the users of the Swedish public libraries.

at least temporarily, negatively affected the quality of the assistance and access to digital media and the Internet for the users of the Swedish public libraries.

At the same time, many public libraries have offered digital activities and developed new digital services for their users for the very first time. The digital literacy and skills of the library staff have increased, and new digital services have been developed during this first year of the pandemic. What long lasting consequences this will have on the Swedish public library system, however, is still too early to tell. (Less)
