Abstract
Previous studies concerning the relation between accessibility to sport facilities and socioeconomic standard report mixed findings. This quantitative study aims to investigate accessibility to sporting facilities used within sport associations, in relation to socioeconomic factors, exemplified through a study in the city of Gothenburg. By conducting a network analysis and statistical overlaying in the programme GIS this research explores both density and distance of the geographical spread of the facilities along with population data within the same area. Furthermore, the results were analysed from an of spatial justice and spatial equity perspective to discuss how equal the access to sport facilities is throughout the city between... (More)
Previous studies concerning the relation between accessibility to sport facilities and socioeconomic standard report mixed findings. Furthermore, the results were analysed from an of spatial justice and spatial equity perspective to discuss how equal the access to sport facilities is throughout the city between different socioeconomical groups. The conclusions describes that the most deprived neighbourhoods have a smaller share of sporting facilities compared to other groups. Differences between private and public sport facilities are indicated by golf courses and tennis facilities being placed in closer proximity to stronger socioeconomic groups and density of tennis facilities are higher in wealthier areas. Whereas public sport facilities are more evenly spread through the neighbourhoods. Although the most deprived areas have less access to all facilities in total. Depending on if the reader has a horizontal or vertical perspective on accessibility, the result may be interpreted differently. (Less)
