The research was carried out by using the qualitative research method, and the interview questions’ design is supported by existing literature in the contest-based crowdsourcing field. The selected interviewees are the active participants in crowdsourcing contests that are from various occupations, their answers are transcribed and coded. The research finds that the intrinsic incentives of contestants outweigh the extrinsic ones, and the most influential motivation is to obtain experience and knowledge by practicing their skills when competing. The result also suggests that the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that might influence each other and permeate mutually, and can independently motivate contestants as well. (Less)
