Hur mår inspektören? En nulägesanalys om livsmedelsinspektörers arbetssituation

Abstract

How do we know that the food we eat is safe and healthy? Sweden is high on the
charter over countries which have the highest food safety standards. Food health
inspectors play an absolutely crucial role in maintaining these standards and systems.
By inspecting food processing facilities, restaurants, and other food establishments
they help prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses and help protect the public from
unsafe food practitioners.
However, being an authority person of this sort comes with a tough work situation
filled with challenges, long hours and in some cases lack of resources and adequate
support.
Researching and improving how the work situation for food health inspectors is
essential to ensure that they can continue to do their important work efficiently and
effectively and to maintain the health and safety of the food we eat.
This study shows that working as a food health inspector comes with certain
challenges and might be prone to certain hostility from the public. A survey which
was made and based on the answers of 22 food health inspectors shows that quality
of work is of the utmost importance however certain obstacles in the work
environment might be the cause for the high percentage of inspectors who answered
that they do not have the proper time to finish all their tasks. Also, more than half of
the inspectors answered that they have felt threatened or scared during an inspection.
In-depth interviews confirmed the answers from the survey and this study discusses
day to day issues the inspectors encounter and highlights some improvement
opportunities that were suggested by the survey and interview participants.

Livsmedelsinspektörer spelar en avgörande roll för att se till att maten vi äter är säker
och hälsosam. Genom att inspektera livsmedelsanläggningar, restauranger och andra
matinrättningar hjälper de till att förhindra spridning av matburna sjukdomar och
skyddar allmänheten från osäkra matpraktiker.
Deras arbetsmiljö är dock ofta utmanade med ett både fysiskt och mentalt
krävande arbete där det ibland saknas rätt resurser eller stöd för att hantera vissa
situationer. Att förbättra arbetsmiljön för livsmedelsinspektörer är avgörande för att
kunna säkerställa att de kan fortsätta att utföra sitt viktiga arbete på ett effektivt och
smärtfritt sätt och på så sätt kunna fortsätta upprätthålla säkerheten och minska
hälsoriskerna med maten vi äter.
Den här studien visar att arbetet som livsmedelsinspektör kommer med vissa
utmaningar och risken att få stå ut med en viss fientlighet från allmänheten. En
undersökning som gjordes och baseras på svaren från 22 livsmedelsinspektörer visar
att kvaliteten på arbetet är av yttersta vikt men vissa hinder i arbetsmiljön kan vara
orsaken till den höga andelen inspektörer som svarat att de inte har tillräckligt med
tid att slutföra alla sina uppgifter. Dessutom har mer än hälften av inspektörerna
svarat att de har känt sig hotade eller rädda vid en inspektion.
Djupintervjuer bekräftade svaren från undersökningen och denna studie
diskuterar dagliga hinder och frågor som inspektörerna stöter på samt lyfter även
fram några förbättringsmöjligheter som föreslogs av enkät- och intervjudeltagarna.
